April is National Volunteer Month, a time to recognize the individuals and organizations who give their time, talent, and passion to make a difference. At the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, volunteerism is at the heart of our mission. From the financial advisors whose charitable efforts we honor to the dedicated judges and supporters who help elevate their stories, our work would not be possible without a strong community committed to giving back.
One of those valued community members, an industry collaborator, is the Financial Services Institute (FSI), which has supported Invest in Others for over 20 years. Through its partnership and shared commitment to service, FSI helps amplify the impact of financial advisors across the country who are making meaningful contributions in their communities.

About FSI: A Mission Rooted in Access and Advocacy
Founded in 2004, the Financial Services Institute (FSI) has a clear and important mission: To ensure that all individuals have access to competent and affordable financial advice, products, and services delivered by a growing network of independent financial advisors and independent financial services firms.
At its core, FSI works to create a healthier, more business-friendly regulatory environment for its members, empowering independent financial advisors to deliver affordable, unbiased advice to hardworking Main Street Americans.
This mission aligns closely with the spirit of volunteerism, helping individuals and communities thrive through service, expertise, and advocacy.
Volunteer Spotlight: Kathryn Anderson, CAE
As part of our Volunteer Month celebration, we spoke with Kathryn Anderson, SVP, Growth & Strategic Partnerships, of FSI about why volunteerism matters and how it shapes both individuals and the financial services industry.

Q&A with Kathryn Anderson
What inspired FSI to get involved with Invest in Others?
“We are proud of the engaged, philanthropic members that are part of FSI. We appreciate being able to support them!”
What has been the most meaningful part of your experience with Invest in Others?
“Hearing the stories of how financial advisors are investing their time and energy to help those in their communities.”
Why Volunteerism Matters
Why do you believe volunteerism is important?
“It’s so easy to keep your head down and just focus on your job, career and clients. But when you take a minute and look around, you find you can use your strengths to help others who might need just what you have to offer.”
How has volunteering impacted your life or perspective?
“I was raised in a family of volunteers. We spent most weekends serving others in our community, so I really didn’t know there was another way to do things. Volunteering encourages you to take a minute to focus on others—something we can all benefit from.”
How does volunteerism strengthen the financial services industry?
“Through volunteering, a financial services professional can show a more human side to what the general public might perceive as a ‘numbers’ profession. This can lead to stronger community connections and even inspire others to consider careers in financial services.”
What would you say to someone considering volunteering?
“You may think you are giving your time to help others, but you are the one who will benefit the most. Just do it.”
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Volunteers
As we celebrate Volunteer Month, we extend our deepest gratitude to the countless volunteers who have supported Invest in Others over the years.
From the many dedicated judges of our Awards and Grant Programs to the individuals and organizations who give their time behind the scenes, your contributions make our mission possible. We simply could not do this work to amplify, celebrate, and inspire the charitable efforts of financial advisors without you.
Your commitment ensures that the stories of generosity and impact across our industry are heard, recognized, and multiplied.
Join Us in Making a Difference
Volunteerism is more than an act, it’s a mindset. As Kathryn so powerfully reminds us, giving back not only strengthens communities, but also enriches our own lives.
This April, we encourage everyone in the financial services community to take a moment, look around, and find a way to give back.
Because when we invest in others, we all move forward, together.
