2026 Invest in Others Community Service Award recipient John Thane is helping Metroport Meals on Wheels deliver nourishment, connection, and dignity to seniors in his Texas community.
For John Thane, giving back isn’t about recognition. It’s about showing up for people who need support and helping ensure they know their community hasn’t forgotten them.
That commitment was recognized at the 20th Anniversary Invest in Others Awards Gala, where John, of Peak Financial Group and Ameriprise Financial Services in Southlake, Texas, received the 2026 Invest in Others Community Service Award for his work with Metroport Meals on Wheels.
But for John, the experience was about something much bigger than taking home an award.
“What made the experience so special for me was realizing that this really isn’t about winning an award,” he said. “It’s about being surrounded by people who have a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of others.”
Being recognized alongside financial advisors and nonprofit organizations from across the country made the moment particularly meaningful.
“It was incredibly humbling to have Metroport Meals on Wheels recognized alongside so many other organizations doing great work,” Thane said.
Delivering More Than Meals
Metroport Meals on Wheels serves seniors in Thane’s community by helping them remain healthy, connected, and independent in their own homes. And while a meal may be what arrives at the door, Thane says the impact of each visit extends much further.
“For Metroport Meals on Wheels, this grant is really about people,” he said. “It’s about putting more meals on the tables of seniors who need them, but it’s also about something much bigger.”
Each delivery offers an opportunity for human connection.
“When our volunteers show up at someone’s door, they’re delivering a meal, but they’re also providing a wellness check, a friendly face and a connection to the community,” Thane explained.
For seniors who may be living alone or experiencing isolation, those interactions can be incredibly meaningful.
“That connection can make all the difference for someone who might otherwise be isolated,” he said. “The grant allows us to reach more seniors and continue helping people live with dignity in their own homes.”
Amplifying the Impact of Financial Advisors
John’s story also reflects the broader purpose behind Invest in Others: to amplify, celebrate, and inspire the charitable work of financial advisors.
Financial advisors are often deeply involved in the communities where they live and work, serving on nonprofit boards, volunteering their time, raising funds, and advocating for causes that matter to them. John believes Invest in Others can help advisors take that commitment even further.
“We have a unique opportunity through our profession to make an impact beyond our clients and our businesses,” he said. “Invest in Others helps advisors turn that passion for giving back into something that can have a much bigger impact in their communities.”
That amplification matters. By shining a light on advisors and the organizations they champion, Invest in Others can help nonprofits gain not only critical funding, but greater awareness for their missions and the people they serve.
An Opportunity for Other Advisors
For John, that is also why more financial advisors should consider bringing the causes they care about to Invest in Others.
