Healing doesn’t always happen with traditional therapy alone. Sometimes, it happens in a quiet barn, in an open field, or in the powerful, wordless connection between a human and a horse. This is the heart of equine-assisted therapy, and it’s why programs like what Healing Hoofbeats of CT has to offer are making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
We’re so excited that this organization is one of 16 named as
one of our 2025 Grant for Good recipients!
The Power of Equine Therapy
Equine therapy is an experiential form of therapy that partners licensed mental health professionals with horses to support emotional growth and healing. Horses are uniquely suited for this work as they are exceptionally sensitive to non-verbal communication, emotional states, and human behavior.
Unlike people, horses are nonjudgmental and honest. They respond in real time to what they sense, offering immediate feedback that helps individuals become more aware of their emotions, behaviors, and relational patterns. This creates a powerful opportunity for insight, self-regulation, and growth, especially for those who may struggle to express themselves verbally.

The Healing Hoofbeats of CT Mission
Healing Hoofbeats of CT is built on the belief that healing occurs through relationships. Their mission is to help individuals feel more empowered and secure in their lives by learning how to build healthy, mutually beneficial relationships, starting with horses.
By working alongside these intuitive animals, clients are provided with a safe, supportive environment to explore how past experiences, trauma, or difficult life situations have shaped the way they connect with others. Through this process, participants begin to heal, learn how to navigate challenges, and cultivate a greater sense of peace in their lives.
A Relationship-Centered Approach to Healing
Healing Hoofbeats of CT recognizes that people are inherently social beings who thrive in healthy relationships, but that trauma and adversity can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms and patterns. Whether someone has experienced a single traumatic event or a series of challenges, healing is always possible.
Their approach emphasizes:
- Building awareness through experiential learning
- Developing emotional regulation and trust
- Practicing healthy communication and boundaries
- Creating meaningful connection in a safe, supportive space
Using both mounted and unmounted equine-assisted techniques, Healing Hoofbeats of CT works with individuals, couples, families, and groups. The therapeutic work is tailored to each participant’s needs, allowing them to engage with the horses in ways that feel accessible, empowering, and transformative.

Invest in Others: Grants for Good

We are proud to share that Healing Hoofbeats of CT was submitted for consideration for an Invest in Others Grant for Good by Nicole L. Bouffard, CRPC™, APMA™, Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC.
The Invest in Others Grants for Good program is designed to recognize and support nonprofit organizations that are making a meaningful difference in their communities. These grants are made possible through the generosity and community-minded spirit of financial advisors who go above and beyond to champion causes they care deeply about.
Through this program, Invest in Others helps nonprofits expand their reach, strengthen their programs, and deepen their impact, ultimately supporting individuals and communities who need it most.
Nicole nominated Healing Hoofbeats of CT because of her close connection to the organization. “I have been around horses most of my life and rode western. When I met my husband 11 years ago, his sister was a social worker getting into Equine Therapy using her own horses. When she was living with me for a brief period, she decided to go full steam ahead with the non-profit and I have supported her been the treasurer from day one. I love what we do and to be able to support it,” she noted.
Looking Ahead with Gratitude and Excitement
We can’t wait to learn more about the impact that Healing Hoofbeats of CT continues to make through our grant opportunity. Their work embodies the spirit of Invest in Others celebrating and amplifying charitable work by focusing on compassion, connection, and a commitment to empowering lives.
Equine therapy reminds us that healing doesn’t always require words, sometimes it begins with presence, trust, and the quiet strength of a horse standing beside you.
